  1. Prepare Ingredients for the dal
  2. Take 25 gm red masoor ( red lentil )
  3. You need 200 gm chana dal(split chickpeas)
  4. Take 25 gm tur dal(split pigeon peas )
  5. You need 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. You need 2 green chillies,slit lengthwise
  7. Provide 750 ml water + extra for soaking the dal
  8. You need 1 tsp salt
  9. You need For tempering the dal-gosht:
  10. Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
  11. Take 2 & 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  12. Take 1 tsp/to taste red chilli powder
  13. Take 3 tbsp clarified butter
  14. Prepare 1 handful curry leaves
  15. You need 1 lemon juice
  16. Provide as needed chopped coriander leaves
  17. Use For the mutton:
  18. Use 500 gm mutton ,with bones
  19. Provide 500 ml water
  20. You need 2 tsp ginger paste
  21. Provide 2 tsp garlic paste
  22. Take 1 & 1/2 tsp cumin seds
  23. Get 2 gren chillies, slit lengthwise
  24. Provide 150 gm onion,finely sliced
  25. Take 100 gm tomato chopped
  26. Provide 1 tsp red chilli powder
  27. Provide 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  28. Use 3/4 tsp cumin powder
  29. Provide 3/4 tsp coriander powder
  30. Take 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  31. Take 1/4 cup oil
  32. Prepare to taste salt
Steps to make Bohri style dal gosht:
  1. For the dal : Wash and soak the dals in water for 2 hours. Drain ina pot or pressure cooker add soaked dals along with ingredients listed for dal.Cover pot with a tight fitted lid or pressure cook the dal until soft and mashed,Turn the heat off, Keep aside,
  2. For the mutton: In a deep bottomed pot or pressure cooker heat oil. Add cumin seeds.When they start to crackle add onions along with ginger paste, garlic paste and green chillies.
  3. Saute till onions turn soft. Add tomatoes along with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder,coriander powder,garam masala powder and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  4. Add mutton pieces and saute for 5 minutes.Add water. Cover pot with with a light fitted lid or pressure cook till mutton is soft and cook through. Add mutton along with stock into the mashed dal. Mix through.For
  5. For tempering the dal gosht : Heat clarified butter. Add cumin seeds. When they start to crackle add minced garlic, curry leaves and kashmiri red chilli powder. Saute for2 minitues and add to the dal gosht. Give the dal gosht 2-3 boils.
  6. Squeeze in the lemon juice, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
